Heather House

It is truly amazing to see what happens when families who are homeless, struggling, and disheartened find a home. It’s also amazing to see what happens when people of different faiths work together to help these families. Since 2001 the Interfaith Council of Solano County has operated Heather House Homeless Shelter. Unlike many shelters, at Heather House you’ll find a warm, home-like environment where our guests, primarily single mothers and their children, can reclaim their dignity, their hope and their lives. Heather House looks like any other home in the neighborhood. But beyond the quiet residential street, you can see that Heather House is much more. You’ll find rooms to accommodate up to 24 guests in our emergency shelter, three longer-term transitional apartments, and a playground and learning center for the children. Last year, 75% of the guests that completed the program moved into employment and permanent housing. This is a number almost unheard of in the world of homeless shelters and treatment programs. Here’s what one family that recently graduated had to say: “Heather House provided a safe place for us to realize our potential. The life direction and guidance were very helpful. Now that we have moved into our apartment, we feel normal- like an actual family. Instead of running into drug dealers at the liquor store trying to make a deal, now we visit with our children’s friend’s parents at Starbucks. We now feel that we are part of the community. Heather House helped our family to become strong together - we are unified, because we worked together to be successful.” During this holiday season as we give thanks for all the wonderful gifts in our own lives, we ask you to help us help others. By giving a donation today, you will be helping a family rise above hopelessness and despair. Your gift will make a real and lasting difference in someone’s life. Visit our website at www.interfaithcouncilsolanocounty.org or stop by Heather House. We are located at 724 Ohio Street, Fairfield and can be reached at 707-425-8518. We welcome your visit and are eager to share more success stories with you. All your gifts are fully deductible to the extent allowed by law.
