Health GAP

Health GAP is an action-oriented advocacy group created in early 1999 by U.S.-based AIDS and human rights activists, public health experts, fair trade advocates, and concerned individuals dedicated to achieving equitable access to treatment and care for people with AIDS in developing countries. We do this by exposing and challenging obstructionist policies and practices of the U.S. government, the pharmaceutical industry, and multilateral institutions. These policies create structural barriers to access and frustrate efforts to address the global AIDS crisis comprehensively. We also work to ensure that adequate resources are raised to provide universal access to treatment and care and to increase health care capacity. We monitor funding streams and program implementation to expose failures in ideologically driven prevention policies and to increase the efficacy, efficiency, and equity of treatment programs. We believe that the fulfillment of the human right to life and treatment for all people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) should be a first-order priority of the global response to AIDS.
