More Information
The early 1930s were not a good time to produce phonograph records - what little money was available was spent on a radio: "free" entertainment after the initial cost. Some manufacturers went out of business, some were purchased by the American Record Corporation. The ARC produced the Perfect, Brunswick, and Melotone labels, among many others. They managed to prosper by using many recordings by their own studio orchestra, as well as bands and vocalists known from the radio. This second of two volumes presents some more of the finest "sweet band" sides recorded for the ARC labels from 1932 to 1935. You'll find more fox-trots and waltzes here, all performed by top-flight musicians and vocalists, including Will Osborne, Freddie Martin, Russ Morgan, black bandleader Teddy Hill and Chick Bullock. I have taken great care to restore these sides (a good bit more than I do for the MP3s that appear on my site!) and although some of the original disks were in very rough shape, I think you'll quite pleased with the sound quality. Full notes and images will be available in PDF format on my site, The Hot-Dance & Vintage Jazz Pages (http://www.2multiples.com/hotdance), soon.
