Synopsis:

Dr. Lindamichellebaron has created a vehicle for students to become involved in their own "Oral Tradition." This means that they will have the opportunity to read, relate, enjoy and make a connection with her two poetry books. These books are RHYTHM AND DUES: POETRY AND IDEAS, and RHYTHM AND DUES: POETRY RESPONSE BOOK, and they present poetry interpretation in a "user-friendly" format. These two books are a duet; in other words, they work together. Once the students follow the five-step process outlined in the section "How to Read a Poem" they will learn to interpret poetry and adapt this process to other literary devices. By using these two books, students will learn to appreciate and love poetry. Each poem is presented in a creative format and is accompanied with related skills and activities. These activities engage students and present the concept of poetry in a clear, concise format. Each poem is accompanied by skills that foster critical thinking. These skill-building exercises are correlated with the Florida Sunshine State Standards. These acquired skills will reinforce diagnostic test-taking strategies.
