The Leonberger originated in Germany and is part of the AKC Working/Guardian Group. They are loyal, clever, especially fond of children, has a playful sense of humor, yet fearless. The 1st "true" dog of this breed was born in 1846 after many cross breedings with Newfoundlands, Saint Bernards and Great Pyrenees.
