The Dachshund originated in Germany and is part of the AKC Hound Group. They have a very keen nose for trailing. They come in three hair varieties: Long haired, smooth, and wire haired. They come in 2 sizes: standard and miniature. Even though they are short-legged and low to the ground, they are very strong for their size. We know them as the "hot-dog dog."
