GrimMISC Government

This rendering of our national flag is a composite. It began as three separate tiles, textured by paper mache of editorials from the L.A. Times the Sunday before election day (all negative, of course). The cold blue tile represents Democrats, with brush strokes from top to bottom to mimic falling tears--a suggestion that the Party acts out of pain and estrangement. The hot red tile represents Republicans, with brush strokes patterned to mimic the bloody stripes across Christ's back--a color, ironically, of both war and redemption. The white tile bears a faint imprint similar to the Shroud of Turin. The individual shapes are hand drawn, to say that we each redefine our own parameters, based loosely on what we observe as natural order. The overall symbolism of the three tiles merged into one is that we are (like it or not) "One Nation Under God"; that he allows us to fight, to make mistakes, to blatantly defy him, and promises in spite of it all to use it for good.
