It's All Greek To Me : Archaic Athena

This amazing 6th century BCE sculpture of the goddess Athena once stood over the doors of the Old Temple that the Parthenon replaced. It's from the archaic period, meaning it's about a century older than the "classical" art most people are familiar with. Archaic art is stylized, almost geometric, like anime or some other forms of graphic art.

That gives this statue dynamic, bold silhouette. The goddess is lunging for the kill against a giant cowering at her feet (he's pretty fragmentary so I cropped him out).
