Goodbye, Walter

Terminal cancer patient Walter Schifter was contemplating his life. Reporter RuthAnn Hogue was documenting both his life and impending death while contemplating a few eternal matters of her own. Barely out of journalism school, the 33-year-old mother of five was nearing her final court date in divorce court. She hadn't been to church in months. Join them both in "Goodbye, Walter" on their spiritual and physical journeys home. This book, originally written completely from a third-person point of view with Walter in the white-hot spot light, underwent a transformation at the book editor's request to include the reporter's point of view. By adding what it was like for a reporter to cover such an intimate story, the publisher suggested, would open more topics for the reader. Hogue said she wasn't sure at first, but decided to accept the challenge. By opening herself up to scrutiny, perhaps she could help someone else find their own personal way "home," wherever that path might lead. While Walter definitely touched her life as shown in this book, the main focus is now, and always has been on celebrating life and the lessons we can all learn from one brave man and his public approach to his impending death. Among those lessons is the timely message that life is precious and that through compassionate care, even the terminally ill can find comfort in their final days and hours. Each product in this store is intended to help spread the word about Walter's choice to celebrate life through to the very end. Please enjoy them in the spirit intended to promote your events or to send someone a quick note to recommend the book - or just brighten their day. We hope you will appreciate them in the spirit intended.
