FRAKTAL FAKTORY > Fine Photography > The Grasshopper Hotel -- Amsterdam in November
Grasshopper seemed like such an unlikely name for a hotel but it certainly is an Amsterdam landmark. I'd be interested in knowing the significance of the name. It is just walking distance from the central train station and the doorway to one of hte seedy tourist areas of the city. It was dawn on a cold, rainy November day so there were very few people around when I took a walk through the Grasshopper environs. I found cannabis bars, adult book shops, student hostels, regular bars, and a small red light district. This particular view was definitely off season.
Amsterdam was cold and rainy. It was not the cheerful active place I've visited in the summer. Very few people were about and it was early morning. A great time to get my photo series Amsterdam in November. Each one in the series has a black and white version, but I also have some in color and sepia. There is a lot more where this came from. Take a look in my gallery.
