Singapore is one of my favorite cities. I never get tired of it no matter how many times I have been there. I think it has a lot of character both because of and in spite of the development. I've met a number of travelers who think that the old Singapore was better and all the development has caused it to lose its charm. Below this residence with the screenless shuttered windows are shops. Usually it is the shop owners who live up here. This picture was taken in old Chinatown and then aged a little. Except for he the electric lights and an occasional paint job, it is easy to imagine this Singapore building has probably not changed much since the early part of the last century.
