Synopsis:

THE POEMS in The Godtouch will provide a delightful experience for the connoisseur of good religious poetry. The reality and feeling that are so much a part of true religious experience are at the heart of each poem, but the vehicle of expression is contemporary and bold rather than sentimental and trite.
Stephen Clark is a young man of marked sensitivity in a variety of areas. His poetry is a copious response to his physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences. Occasionally traditional, but more frequently innovative, Mr. Clark expresses with strong feelings his moods of anger, nostalgia, faith, praise, and hope. The tone is tough or gentle, depending on the thought or feeling he is sharing.
Roots firmly planted in an evangelical Protestant tradition assure a solid familiarity with theological concepts and Biblical story. For readers acquainted with the historical tradition of religious poetry, the style of the poems in The Godtouch is reminiscent at times of the metaphysical style of some of the outstanding seventeenth century English religious poets. But the feel throughout is very contemporary. I highly commend Mr. Clark for his fine volume of poetry.
