Environmental Health Officer Category

The Surgeon General chartered the Sanitarian Career Service Board in 1968 to provide advice and assistance to the Surgeon General on issues relating to the professional practice and the personnel activities of Commissioned Officers and Civil Servants in the Sanitarian Category. The name of the group was subsequently changed to the Sanitarian Career Development Committee and later to the Sanitarian Professional Advisory Committee (SPAC). In order to capture the diversity of the Sanitarian category on October 1, 1999, the name of the category was changed to the Environmental Health Officer Category, and the group was changed to the Environmental Health Officer Professional Advisory Committee (EHOPAC).
