Science labs in cartoons often assume that all chemicals are brightly coloured, but this isn't really the case. Most solutions are clear, transparent, and uncoloured. A few really ARE as colourful as TV suggests. These chemicals include: ORANGE GLOW - an orange chemical used in molecular biology to track the location of DNA in an agarose gel. BROMOPHENOL BLUE - a blue chemical used in DNA and protein analysis to track these biomolecules in gels. It's also a pH indicator, turning yellow in highly acidic environments.
