Basset Grace

While at my favorite "spirit place" in the Black Hills (where I grew up) I took a swim while watching my dear Bessie Basset walking carefully along the rocks.

I grabbed my Leica and snapped this shot, then started talking to her to tell her that we had a "real award winner" on film.

She thought she might just jump in to the water (forgetting that Bassets don't swim well...) and it was going to be all or nothing! I wouldn't let my little "child" go under without taking me too!

Bessie lived to a grand old age of 17 and is buried in the meadow with some of her other friends who have shared our lives with us.

She frolicks pain-free on our mountain and once in awhile, she lets me catch a glimpse of her when she was a young, agile, exploring pup!

Do enjoy this wonderful print and remember her lesson of persistence, vigilence, and downright love of life.
