2006 is the Year of the Dog in the Chinese Zodiac. Japan has absorbed a lot of culture from foreign shores and while less stock is given to its effectiveness in determining a persons personality than blood types, it is still popular. The Japanese Zodiac is very similar to the Chinese Zodiac. In Japan there are are two kanji for dog. The simpler one is the version currently used in Japan.
