Distribution Services:
Market Wire: Market Wire offers users great distribution for their releases, at reasonable rates. National releases (400 words) will run about $400 while a local distribution (such as the San Francisco bay Area) will run about $90.
PR Newswire: PR Newswire is one of the largest and most popular distributors. They are very good at what they do, offer great reporting, but they are also expensive. An average press release with national distribution will run $635 (but can get costly with add on charges).
PR WEB: PR Web offers two levels of service - free, and not free. The free version (PR Web) is pretty good for the price, and can be successful if your story is good enough. Their other service (PR WEB Direct) is very good, and offers a few different distribution plans. This service starts at about $125 and goes up depending on options you choose.
Open Press: Open press is free, and does offer services most free services do not offer. All press releases are approved (or not) by staff editors prior to distribution. They actually refuse about 35%. By doing this they are known for delivering great content.
24-7 Press Release: 24-7 is free, kind of. There is a free version, but for a donation you get add-on services, or wider distribution, thus better chance of a story.
