Hi all! It’s us again!

This is to let you know that we are switching back to the Japanese Red Cross Society as organization to which we donate our proceeds. This has to do with the fact that JRC extended its donation period for Tohoku until March 31, 2012!!

We would also like to use this occasion to briefly explain why we chose JRC.

Donations to the JRC are designated and effective and will be used integrally, immediately and solely to help those suffering in the disaster-affected areas in Japan.
JRC states on its website that:

"100 per cent of the money donated directly to the Japanese Red Cross by individuals and corporations in Japan and overseas will be distributed to prefecture Grant Disbursement Committees for distribution by municipal governments as cash grants to those most in need."

http://www.jrc.or.jp/english/relief/l4/Vcms4_00002286.html

On top of that, the JRC has the experience and the necessary resources to act quickly and effectively.

Visit the JRC website for more info!

http://www.jrc.or.jp/english/relief/l4/Vcms4_00002070.html

As long as donations to the JRC are used solely for providing relief efforts to those in need in the Tohoku region, Tomodachi Calling will channel all its profits to the JRC.

Tomodachi Calling keeps the right to donate its raised funds to other organizations in the future, should the JRC stop to use donations only to provide relief efforts for Tohoku.

Hello everyone!

Up until now Tomodachi Calling had promised to donate all proceeds to the area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake via the Japan Red Cross Society, but these donations will stop being received by the society on September 30th, 2011.

Therefore, we must change who Tomodachi Calling donates to. Proceeds from August 1st, 2011 will now be donated to NPO JEN's Great East Japan Earthquake disaster relief fund.

Up until now money collected by Tomodachi Calling was donated to the Japan Red Cross Society and delivered to those affected as cash, based on our idea of "wanting to directly and specifically assist the people in the disaster zone, as efficiently as possible." Since we could not find an organization that would continue to receive donations for the people affected by the disaster after the 30th of September, we have chosen NPO JEN as the new recipient of our donations for the reasons indicated below.

1. Because the organization seems to be effectively and directly assisting those that need it the most
2. Because what the donations will be used for is explicitly stated
3. Because the organization has a website that describes their activities and goals in at least English and Japanese

The website of NPO JEN's is here:
http://www.jen-npo.org/en/index.html

As you can see on JEN's website, providing food or clearing mud and rubble is still required in the disaster-affected areas. Such actions are only possible by the use of human hands. We would like to use our proceeds to support the activities of charities working directly on-site like JEN.

Tomodachi Calling is a charity webshop with T-shirts and other cool stuff. We are a couple of international friends who have met in Tokyo, either because we are living there by choice, were born there or were visiting.

Most of us were in Tokyo at the time the big earthquake hit northeast Japan on Friday March 11, 2011, 14:46 JST. The unfolding events in the minutes, hours and days following the quake left us in a state of shock and terror. It made us feel helpless. So instead of hoping and waiting, we decided to combine and to act. We are therefore asking friends (in Japanese: “tomodachi”), focussing on artists whose works we admire and creative people we like, to contribute a design for our charity-webshop.

100% of Tomodachi Calling’s profits will go to the Japanese Red Cross in order to help the victims of the unthinkable disasters that recently struck Japan.

Tomodachi Calling will continually upload new artists and artworks on the charity webshop and blog. Subscribe to our newsletter, RSS-Feed and Facebook-page to receive all news and updates about our project. Please visit our shop and blog often. This is only the beginning!
