The mission of the BRCA Believer line is to raise awareness about the availability of, and accessibility to, genetic testing as it relates to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, about the implications of being BRCA gene positive, about the extraordinary power of choice that accompanies a BRCA positive diagnosis, and the importance of celebrating those who have made brave, difficult choices in relation.
Today women and men have access to an extraordinary gift—the gift of knowledge that they may carry the “faulty” BRCA gene, which allows individuals to make deliberate choices—whether they be surgical or surveillance—BEFORE they are diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening cancer. Unfortunately not enough people understand that such gene testing is possible and more accessible than they may think, and even fewer understand the various considerations and decisions that can be made if deemed BRCA positive. Yet fewer of those who make heroic and life-altering choices, who do so in relative privacy and seclusion, benefit from the level recognition and praise they deserve amid a situation few understand.
That’s where the BRCA Believer line comes in. We aim to uplift and empower the BRCA-positive community with an overarching sense of pride and achievement while concurrently educating and raising societal awareness regarding the importance and availability of BRCA-related genetic testing.
The company founder, herself BRCA-positive, has developed the BRCA Believer line as a labor of love—her effort to “do her part” to give back and help others as a show of gratitude for the choices she feels lucky enough to have made (and the opportunity to make those choices) to circumvent a deadly disease that prematurely claimed her own mother’s precious life.
A portion of each sale is donated to nonprofit organization(s) dedicated to fighting hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.
