From the Contributor
The first book of poetry by author Joshua G. Smith.
Synopsis
"Try to Write the Wrongs" is a collection of early poetry, refreshing in content and varied in style. Painstakingly divided into six sections, the book attempts to establish one foot firmly in the past, while looking optimistically towards the future. We're taken from childhood memories in "A Broken Box of Crayons," to a less personal history in "The History We Chose." The short but surprising "Rambling, Onward to Hope" recalls the styles of both cummings and Zagajewski, and then segways right into "The Plagiarists," a long, sometimes self-deprecating, sometimes egotistical ode to writing and the author himself. "Symphony" does what we would expect, plays to our senses, recalling the past again with a bittersweet longing and hope for something better. And we are finally left with "An Escape (but not from the stars)," which may invite more questions than answers not only about where the author is heading in future works, but where he - and we - may be headed in life.
