Caribbean Art Promotions is proud to launch its debut of mixed media digital collage art gifts showcasing the work of master wood sculptor Joseph Bacchus of Tobago, West Indies. Joseph’s evocative and finely detailed hand carvings embody both the Caribbean’s ancestral African roots and contemporary symbolism of the region. Each sculpture is a story told by Joseph, with the chisel as his pen and the wood his paper.
The sculptures, many inspired by news stories and issues from Trinidad Carnival to promotion of breastfeeding and infant health in the Caribbean, are layered in meaning. The collage compositions, which serve as their backdrops, incorporate one or more elements of earth, water, and air, signpost of a healthy planet. Others integrate West African Adinkra symbols that speak to the sculpture’s meaning. Click an image to learn its story.
