Synopsis

Jon Roelke, a self-confident young transplant from Miami, is steadily and contentedly plodding through his life. It is nothing short of simple and ritualistic and it just so happens to be taking place in the subtropical paradise of the Florida Keys. Big Pine Key to be exact. The thirty-three-year-old self-professed fly-fishing junkie has spent the last three years since his fathers untimely death creating what he believes to be the kind of cozy and predictably regimented life he feels he needs in order to be happy. He spends the majority of his free time on his precious boat, casting his fly rod across the flats for the elusive bonefish. Little else exists in his world. Little else matters. He is fulfilled, he is truly happy. Or is he? While enjoying a quiet, unassuming Sunday of bonefishing off the reaches of Pirates Cove Jon discovers a tiny, dilapidated rowboat containing an emaciated woman, Maria Panza, and her seven-year-old daughter, Bella. To them Marbella, Spain and the evils of Francisco Panza are half a world away--for now. Francisco will do anything to track down his wife and daughter to protect the dirty secrets that are sure to destroy everything he has, including his revered career as a top-ranked professional golfer. Maria is in seemingly grave condition and Jon finds himself faced with a quick decision, the outcome of which sets the ball rolling for a string of profound affects on the lives of everyone around him. Before he knows it he finds himself protecting a secret of his own and his onetime ritualistic life is suddenly thrust into a whirlwind of pure unpredictability. Inevitably a side of Jon that even he didnt know existed is exposed. He finds himself exploring thoughts and emotions that had been suppressed in a past he was sure he would never revisit. What will become of Jon? Will Maria survive? Does Bella have a future? Will Francisco prevail in his evil quest, or will he create his own demise? A small cast of these and other colorful characters will do their best to weather the storm of consequences of what was supposed to have been an innocent day of fishing off the shores of the sleepy little community of Big Pine Key. **********************************************This novel contains threads of romance, suspense, and drama woven throughout on a canvas with a true slice of life feel. The author, Erik Swanson, is actually a Professional Fire Fighter in York, Pennsylvania who had always dreamed of writing a novel ever since he graduated from college. Having grown tired of the waves of books coming out each year which he considered to be laborious reads he decided to try his hand at creating a work of fiction that would be anything but laborious. So, if you are looking for a book to kick back with on a beach chair-- to read with the ease of having a poolside conversation with your best friend, then Bonefish may be just what the doctor ordered. Imaginative. Different. Fun.
