As a person with a science background, I've always loved science limericks. They usually have that quality to elegantly and entertainingly make relevant science statements.
A clever mix of art and science.
Here's a collection of my own efforts at some science limericks. The collection will grow, so if you don't quite see what you like, check back.
These particular efforts treat cosmology, black holes, relativity, planetary science, the Cassini mission to Saturn with the Huygens probe to Titan, Mars exploration, and evolution.
If you know someone who has a science bent, I'm sure they would enjoy a gift of one of these poetic ruminations on a t-shirt, poster, mug, or tile.
Survival Of The Fittest Darwin's theory of evolution is often described as the Survival Of The Fittest. |
Ode To Global Warming Carbon dioxide in the air. Methane in the air. When will it stop? Soon, if we want to stop a global warming catastrophe. |
Primeval Ancestry This light-hearted poem and image pays homage to our primeval past. It expresses gratitude to evolution for the contributions apes made to our ancestry. |

T-Rex Lament We owe a lot to all those dinosaurs that lived and died so long ago, as well as to all the plants and other animals that were part of that world. They gave us the oil we could use to power our world - |
|
Uncertainty This humorous science limerick pays homage to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, one of the most confounding principles of quantum physics. |
|||
General Relativity One of the most profound intellectual achievements in science is Albert Einstein's Theory of General Relativity. |
The SETI Blues Charles Drake lit a fire of inspiration with his famous equation that predicts the number of civilizations in the Galaxy. But where the heck are they? |
Comet Eater In 1994 we got to witness the incredible. The comet Shoemaker-Levi collided with the planet Jupiter. It was a rude awakening that comets do still hit planets, and Earth could be next. |

Big Bang Limerick This limerick condenses the vast history of the big bang, the resulting universe, and the evolution of life, into a handful of intertwined words. |
Pluto's Lament For many professional and amateur astronomers, the change of classification of planet Pluto to dwarf planet Pluto has been a bitter pill to accept. |
Titan Surprise Cassini traveled over a billion miles to deliver the Huygens probe. It worked well -- until it thawed Titan's surface and sank. |

Timeless Photons Special Relativity tells of the slow down of time at high velocity. This little limerick describes it another way. |
Mars Tzars Limerick We traveled to Mars to find life, so far only to find meteor craters. This little limerick cleverly tells the tale. |
Black Hole Poem This little limerick tells what happens to stars that get too big for their own good. |
