Act 1, Scene 2 "Harold's Sugar Rush"
When I set out to write "Burundanga Becomes You" I decided that I didn't want bullets flying and cars crashing for nothing. I wanted drama. I wanted what Robert McKee calls "STORY" - in big capital letters. Mr. McKee has taught me that scenes have to turn, they have to change from one human value to another within the scene. He has also shown me the joys of including subtext to deliver the goods. I have taken this idea into the visual realm for the storyboards.
Look at Harold. Harold is a conflicted
CIA agent with the heart of a chained rebel. It's there in his
choice of ties,
in his humorous "Slave" nametag, or the barcode tattooed on his arm. If
you've read Act 1, Scene 2 "Lick, Lickety, Lick"
then you already know that Harold's just been snubbed
by Mercy. But Harold's a pretty resourceful young man.
What will Harold do and why does he want his "package?" What's in it for Harold? What is the importance and significance of the packages? Ah, see, that's the beauty of subtext!!!
Harold, of course, isn't alone in the world. Harold has a brother named Terry who's a doctor. Terry is currently screwing Harold's boss, Mercy, which tends to complicate the situation. So Harold sits in Danny's Donut Shop in New York City and stews while contemplating a call to Terry.
In our store we have several items derived from this storyboard. You'll know the STORY that others don't. That's one heckuva thing to have when you want a conversation starter or you just want to be cool. Burundanga Becomes you... don't you want to know what we're becoming America? Show your support and that secret rebel spirit!
