Albanian Designs : Fier
Fier (Fieri) is located in southwest Albania and has a small population of around 50,000 people. Unfortunately, there is not much for the tourist to see in Fier, however, it is close by to
Apollonia, an ancient ruined city. If you want to spend a few days exploring Apollonia and its surrounds you could stay in Fier, although there are more hotel options in nearby Berat and Vlora. Apollonia is also close enough to Tirana and Durres to be able to visit during the day.
Apollonia was founded by the Greeks in 588 BC and later became famous for its school of philosophy. The city later went into decline and most people moved away to Vlora and other cities.
Places of interest if you are planning on visiting Apollonia are:
- The Monument of Agonothetes
- The Library and the Odeon
- The House with Mosaics
- Fontana
- Museum of Apollonia
- Church of St Mary
Although Fier isn't a city for tourists, it is an important industrial city in Albania. Current industries in Fier include oil, bitumen, and chemicals.
Many people from Fier are now living in the US and in Europe and have done so for many years. However, most maintain their
