Vlora is the major port of southern Albania and although there are many beaches near the city, the best beaches are found further south. The nicest beaches near Vlora can be found in the coves around Uji i Ftohti. Most are serviced by little cafes where you can enjoy lunch or a snack. Vlora itself doesn't have many tourist sites although there are a number of museums. For a small fee you can visit the Museum of Independence, the Ethnological Museum, and the Historical Museum. Monuments of interest include the Muradi Mosque, the Independence Monument, Kanina Castle, Monastery of St Mary, and the shrine of Kuzum Baba.
