Only 27km from the Greek island of Corfu lies the small resort town of Saranda. The town is located in a horseshoe shaped hill which drops into the clear blue sea below. Saranda is expected to be a major holiday destination for visitors to Albania but is currently still in development.

The major attractions in Saranda are its climate and its beaches. Saranda experiences around 300 days of sunshine per year. Summers are hot and dry and winters are mild and wet. The town is also a popular entry point for travellers from Greece. Regular ferries and hydrofoils to and from Corfu make the island an easy day trip from Saranda and vice versa.

Saranda has a number of popular beaches which are becoming lined with houses and hotels in many new developments. Many cafes and restaurants are opening to cater for the increasing numbers of tourists to the region. One of the most popular beaches in the area is at Ksamili village. Ksamili beach is very popular for its clean, clear waters and sunny weather.

Nearby Saranda is the ancient archeaological site of Butrinti which is a UNESCO World Heritage site close to the Greek border. Remains at the site are believed to date back as far as the 10th century BC.

SARANDA ALBANIA Near the Blue Eye Spring is the 12 century monastery of Mesopotami. The monastery is situated on a hill beside the Bistrica River. The spring and Butrinti are a short day trip from Saranda.
