The Air Force Store > Air Force Thunderbirds > Eighteen Inches Apart
The United States Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron plans and presents precision aerial maneuvers to exhibit the capabilities of modern high performance aircraft and the high degree of professional skill required to operate those aircraft.
Currently, the Thunderbirds fly the F-16, with very few modifications from the combat version (although the 20mm cannon and ammunition drum have been removed to accommodate the smoke oil drum). Each Thunderbird aircraft is able to return to combat status within 72 hours.
These planes from the diamond formation are only flying 18 inches apart!
