Synopsis

"'Even before a missionary takes his or her first step in the land to which God has sent him, the most difficult hurdles have already been scaled.' These were the words the missionary speaker had said at Keswick Campgrounds almost a year before. At the time I could only vaguely guess at the nature of those hurdles. Now, I knew exactly what those hurdles looked like, felt, meant, and required. My job and means of supporting myself and my children were now on hold, future status: unknown. Strangers were going to be moving into MY house, using MY furniture--LIVE in my house! The boys were leaving opportunities that only the United States could give them, to live in a jungle without modern medicines. What if they got sick? What if they hated the place and wanted to come home? Could we? I was now going to have to depend on people I barely knew to support me, to send money on a regular basis for my most rudimentary requirements of life..."
