This equation by Stephen Hawking - the geek's geek! - is so easy to say -
over 4 h-bar G
- and yet it expresses the entropy of a black hole, and it "unifies" thermodynamics, relativity, gravity, and the Big Bang.
(SBH is the entropy of a Black Hole, c is the speed of light, k is Boltzmann's constant, A is the surface area of the event horizon, h-bar is the reduced Planck's Constant (or Dirac's Constant) and G is the gravitational constant.)
It is so elegant that it really ought to be true - but we don't yet know whether it is. (It opens up a paradox involving the escape of information from a Black Hole in so-called "Hawking radiation")
That's why we have shown the equation itself on the point of being sucked into a Black Hole.
Be the envy of your friends - expecially the ones who wear that old-fashioned "E=mc2"!
