is a pendant and a hei tiki
is a pendant in this enigmatic form. Some say it is based on a foetus, others, an emblem of fertility, still others a god. Carved in pounamu
(nephrite jade) or whalebone with paua-shell (abalone) or red sealing-wax eyes, a tiki is a treasured heirloom, but in plastic and other materials they were degraded for a long time. Those are coming back into their own as retro-kitsch. This is a plaster cast of an authetic example.
