German Shepherd Rescue of Central Alabama

German Shepherd Rescue of Central Alabama German Shepherd Rescue of Central Alabama (GSRCA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. This status allows for public support and guarantees any donor tax deductible benefits according to current laws. GSRCA is devoted to saving German Shepherd dogs within Alabama and its surrounding states. The dogs we save have been injured, abused, neglected, or abandoned and many of them come from animal shelters where they were turned in by their owners. GSRCA brings these dogs into our homes as we try to find new and permanent ones for them. We get to know the dogs' personalities in order to discover the home for which they are best suited. At least half of the dogs GSRCA rescues are heartworm positive. The treatment is expensive, lengthy and risky, but we want to make sure dogs are heartworm negative before they are offered for adoption. We are advocates of sterilization and all shepherds are spayed or neutered to slow the cycle of overpopulation. All known health or temperament issues are disclosed to potential adopters. German Shepherds with 'special needs' make wonderful companions as well. The adoption process starts with submitting a COMPLETE application. References will be checked and a home visit will be done before approval. This process can take up to three weeks depending on circumstances. (We are all volunteers with full time jobs.) Once approved, the applicant is scheduled a time to meet the dogs. Adopters sign a contract and submit a adoption fee. We provide them with their new canine family member, health records, several days worth of food, leash, collar, and a lifetime connection with GSRCA for support and friendship.
