Copyediting-L, an e-mail list for copyeditors all over the world, was founded in 1992. Its subscribers refer to it as CE-L, and they often affectionately call their listmates the CE-Lery (hence the celery-stalk logos).

The CE-Lery are some of the most intelligent, detail-oriented, and helpful people around. In the service of making prose safe for readers everywhere, they fearlessly discuss anything related to editing: sticky style issues; grammar and syntax, including danglers; philosophy of editing; newspaper, technical, book, journal, Web site, and other specialized editing; reference books; client relations; Internet resources; electronic editing and software; freelance issues; and so on.

If you're a member of the CE-Lery, here's where you can get your gear. Don't know what a dangler is? Then you're not CE-Lery! Scroll down to the bottom of the page to read how we got our logos.

Creator of the Logos

The Copyediting-L logos were created in December 2004 by Lisa Grabowski, a graphic artist with over 20 years' experience, from an idea suggested on one of the CE-L lists by member Mark Wise in April 2004. She has counted among her clients an assortment of large advertising firms, pharmaceutical/health care promotion agencies, and graphic design companies. The products she's illustrated for these agencies' clients have ranged from hamburgers to hospitals, dog food to drugs (over the counter and prescription), and candy to communications. Grabowski, owner of LG Design, is a lifelong resident of New York State's Long Island. You or your employer can contact her about projects by . (Note: The "I edit, therefore I live" design was created by CE-Lmate Katharine O'Moore-Klopf. Conversion of all artwork for use on dark shirts was done by CE-Lmate Joy Freeman.)
