Donuts Coffee Shop closed January 2008. There was always room on one of the few red leather stools at the counter in my favorite mini-diner. Opened in 1975 the shop sold more memories and friendliness than donuts. Chris maned the grill with quiet concentration as sister Effie or Jean dished up juicy hamburgers. No booze, no credit. Officially the 5th Avenue Coffee Shop, it was located 212 Fifth Avenue at Union.
